Donald Trump Casinos

U.S. construction and gambling kingpin Donald Trump is joining forces with top Emirates developer Nakheel LLC to build a tulip-shaped hotel on an island made in the form of a palm tree.

The deal that Nakheel announced Wednesday brings together two of the world's flashiest developers and marks Trump's first foray into the Middle East. Trump is behind the construction of Manhattan skyscrapers and casinos in Las Vegas and Atlantic City, N.J.

Legal Gambling

Casino gambling has been legal in Mississippi for almost 15 years and is an important part of the state's economy, but the state never has come to terms with it politically.

A simple bill to allow hurricane-ravaged Gulf Coast casinos to build on land threatened to erupt into a major political battle in the Legislature. The issue is critical for the Coast gaming industry, which provides 14,000 jobs and $500,000 a day in tax revenue.

Hot Poker

For Evelyn Ng, a professional poker player from Toronto, the game has everything to do with mental agility and very little else.
"Luck is not in my vocabulary," said Ng, 30, as she sat behind a table at the Borgata Poker Open here this week. "My strategy is really to just try to stay focused and wait for the others to make mistakes."

Wearing white-rimmed sunglasses, Ng and her every move were being filmed for the World Poker Tour, a television show on the Travel Channel that features high-stakes poker tournaments around the nation.

Gambling Classes

The Bush administration is planning to clarify the difference between Class 2 and Class 3 gambling.
Experts say the move would require more Oklahoma tribes to compact with the state and result in millions of more dollars for education funding.
Minnesota US Attorney Tom Heffelfinger heads a Justice Department panel on American Indian issues. He says the plan is designed to re-establish the distinction between Class 3 slot machines and Class 2 machines based on bingo.

Super Casino

Muslims are being urged to drop opposition to a Birmingham super-casino in return for a promise that the project will regenerate a run-down inner city area.
City council leaders are conducting a charm offensive in an effort to swing support behind Birmingham City Football Club's planned £217 million stadium and casino development at Saltley.

Las Vegas Casinos

Casinos normally try to closet their patrons away from the world in an effort to keep them gambling for as long as possible. Seldom will you find outdoor views, much less a clock, inside a casino.

That is where Laughlin, a relatively new town 90 miles southwest of Las Vegas, is different.

Many of its nine casino resorts offer views of the Colorado River and access to a paved river walk. Water taxis allow visitors to go from one resort to another without going back to their cars.

Casino News

With gambling now an entrenched part of the West Virginia landscape, we find ourselves in an uncomfortable predicament.
As a special September legislative session nears, some lawmakers want to give counties an opportunity to vote on whether to permit table games at their local racetracks.
For his part, Gov. Joe Manchin has said any legislation that would permit referenda on blackjack, roulette and other games of chance at the state's four tracks also must provide greater control over the state's limited video gambling mini-casinos.

Casinos vs Bingo

Buffalo Catholic Bishop Edward Kmiec recently sent a letter to the Mayor urging him to oppose a casino for downtown Buffalo, even while many diocesan churches still run bingo and other games of chance.

Diocesan spokesman Kevin Keenan tells NewsRadio 930 WBEN the two are not the same. He says casino gambling has higher stakes; that the money does not serve a higher purpose as Church-sponsored gaming does; that "lives are ruined" by casinos when people who can ill afford to gamble bet their money away.

Video Bingo at Casino San Pablo

Confusion was the big winner on the first day of electronic bingo at Casino San Pablo.
Several of the hundreds of patrons who visited the casino on Monday told reporters that the spiffy new video bingo machines were confusing them with too many flashing lights, changing graphics and blinking buttons.
But those same gamblers, a few of whom declined to reveal their names because they didn't want bosses to know how they spent a sick day or an extra long lunch break, all said they were having fun despite the chaos.
